'Rebecca facilitated the label writing and editing process for new galleries at Museum of English Rural Life, Reading. She was excellent to work with and showed a strong and grounded awareness of the target audiences and style and content needed for these audiences. She worked confidently and efficiently with a range of staff to make sure deadlines were met and successive stages of the project completed.'

Isabel Hughes, curator, Museum of English Rural Life, Reading

The core of my museums work is helping to make collections accessible to visitors, developing creative and innovative ways of exploring them, and evaluating museum education and visitor projects. Since 2010 I have worked as a freelance museum education consultant, mainly at the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL), Reading. Before that I worked in the learning and interpretation department at the Victoria and Albert museum for four years.

My experience includes project management, quantitative and qualitative research, interpretation management and development, and online learning materials development and evaluation.

I helped to coordinate label writing for the new galleries at MERL and taught on the museum’s collections-based research training programme for PhD students. My other experience includes a coordinating role on OBL4HE, a JISC-funded online educational materials project, and co-designing the curriculum for the Reading University’s Museum Studies BA degree. My role at the V&A consisted of initiating and managing collaborative educational projects as well as setting up and teaching museum-based modules for undergraduates.

I have co-edited and/or contributed to three books for museum and university professionals published by Ashgate in 2010, 2013 and 2015, been published in peer-reviewed journals and spoken at national and international conferences.
